Also known as a console, a corbel is used as a decorative support for arches and cornices. Exterior stone cornices have been in use since medieval times, especially in churches where they were ornately carved into gargoyles, dragons and other mythical creatures. The name derives from a French word meaning crow, because of the corbel’s beaklike shape. Lightweight mouldings have a large selection of cost effective corbel designs that will provide a very effective decorative enhancement to any project.
